What to look for in Ridgeline Jackets
- A Polyester brushed outer layer makes the garment near silent when moving with minimum rustling. This makes it perfect for those in the game keeping industry or those looking to hunt.
- Waterproofing. For a Ridgeline Jacket to qualify as water proof it typically has a Hydrostatic Head of 10,000mm and Moisture Vapour Transmission Rate of 5,000g/m2/24hrs. It will also have sealed seams preventing water ingress in the more vulnerable areas of the jacket. Don’t be put off though if it does not say water proof, A lot of Ridgelines product line up is highly weather resistant, even if it does not quite meet the water proofing standard.
- Soft Shell. Some Ridgeline Jackets include Soft shell, either in whole or in part, typically on the chest area. This is a reinforcing layer, typically on top of fleece adding additional durability and a touch more weather resistance. While not considered water proof, it does provide additional protection against wind and rain. Which makes a great choice for outdoor working with a chance of mild showers.
- ‘Fishtail Back’ or ‘Scooped back’. Also called the New Zealand cut, it is available on some jackets but not all. It is a large scooped back area that extends down the legs past the buttocks. This both provides additional protection when going through wooded areas and provides a clearer run for water to go.
- Storage. Not to be overlooked, differerent garments provide different storage. Some options to look out for are large bellow pockets, ideal for storing cartridges or larger items such as dog leads. Hand warmer pockets come in different sizes, side access, usually lined. Chest pockets, check to see if they include a security zip or not and finally inside pockets. Not all the Ridgeline Jackets have them so check if this is important to you.
