Chatham currently uses two types of leather for its shooting accessories, pull up leather and antique oiled.  Both leather’s look absolutely fantastic and are of high quality providing a unique patina over time as the leather matures with use.

Chatham’s Pull up leather is not technically a type of leather.  Instead, it is a premium finishing technique which infuses either hot oil, wax, or both into a leather hide.  This creates a gorgeous looking two tone effect as the leather ages thanks to lines forming in the leather when pulled or stretched as part of natural use and ageing.

A great side effect of pull up leather is that maintenance is quite easy.  Whilst a great deal will depend on how much you use it, it needs less in the way of conditioning over time than regular leather as the hot oil and wax added at the start maintain for a long time.  Whilst conditioning is still recommended, try cleaning smudge marks with your thumb first.

Chatham’s alternative leather the antique oiled is leather treated to look older than it actually is.  The oil’s added to the leather help prolong the life of the leather good.  The antique effect looks truly stunning in person in a way that is difficult to get across with pictures.
